A Rare Live Stephen King Recording!

Stephen King delivers a haunting, heartfelt performance as he shares a story about the bonds between husbands, wives and pets.

LT has a theory about pets, particularly his Siamese cat. It had been their cat not just his cat, but that was until he came home one day to a note on the fridge. His wife had left him.

The cat stayed behind...

Recorded live at London's Royal Festival Hall, LT's Theory of Pets demonstrates yet again that Stephen King is a master storyteller.

What Customers Say About LT's Theory of Pets:

Stephen King wondered the same thing, and it led to LT'S THEORY OF PETS. Like any story by Stephen King, LT'S THEORY OF PETS has moments of dark humor. All of this leads to LT'S THEORY OF PETS. The ending will leave some listeners unsatisfied, as there are just as many questions as there are answers. From the arrival of the dog, Frank, and the cat, Lucy, their marriage was on a downward spiral. Frank, intended for LT, bonds with Lulubelle, while Lucy, bought for Lulubelle, bonds with LT. Ever wonder about how pets start to look and act like their owners. But fans of this master of horror know that there are bound to be twists and turns, some that will take the listener to the dark places that reside in the hearts of man.

The print version of this story is in the anthology, EVERYTHING'S EVENTUAL, and where I first read it. In fact, there are moments that left me laughing out loud. The audio version actually enhances the plot as the nuances of the story are easily discernible to the listener. LT'S THEORY OF PETS is narrated by Stephen King and is a recording of a reading before a live audience. The death of LT and Lulubelle's marriage is one that everyone loves to hear, no matter how many times LT tells it. The truth is up to the reader to decide.

and to the strange disappearance of Lulubelle. The introduction before the story commences adds a nice touch as it is always fascinating to see what is inside the mind of an author, particularly one who writes like Stephen King. LT'S THEORY OF PETS is worthwhile if only to hear it read by Stephen King. Once again, Stephen King delivers a fascinating tale.COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES

I wish S.King would record all his books himself. It was so much fun to hear him. The story was good but his read made it excellent.

This is an unabridged audio version of a short story by Stephen King, available on CD and as audio download. The story is good but the ending is disappointing. For hard-core Stephen King fans this audio version is worth having just to hear Stephen King reading his own story to a live audience. On the surface it looks like the friction between LT and Lulubelle about the pets is the cause of the breakup, but this is presumably only a symptom of deeper problems.Stephen King has an amazing ability to create characters we can recognize as real people.

This story is also available in print in "Everything's Eventual", a collection of 14 short stories by Stephen King. The total length of the audio program is 56 minutes, and 5 minutes of this is the introduction, so the story itself is around 50 minutes. He describes the reaction of people to being told this theory, and says, "They would always end up feeling let down. It features Stephen King himself reading the story to a live audience.

LT and Lulubelle come across as very real people, and we can laugh at them and identify with them and understand that their marriage is doomed. The story starts out funny, and then it turns tragic, and then it ends in a somewhat unsatisfying way.In the story, the narrator (a good friend of LT's) at one point is talking about LT's so-called "theory of pets". The introduction is a bit funny, with Stephen King happily reminding the audience that they are all going to die, and suggesting that they should check the back seats of their cars before getting in, just in case, you know. The story itself is about LT and Lulubelle, a young couple who have broken up after three years of marriage. There are two pets involved, a dog and a cat, with the dog loving Lulubelle and hating LT, and the cat loving LT and hating Lulubelle.

A story that good deserved a better punch line." That's exactly my feeling after listening to this short story by Stephen King. For average Stephen King fans it makes more sense to buy "Everything's Eventual" in book form, as it's cheaper and you get 13 additional short stories.Rennie Petersen

it's about cats. It's taken me a year to pick up another Stephen King book and I'm now reading Stationary Bike while I'm at the gym. I remember listening to this audio CD about a year ago on the way home from a friend's home in the back country late at night. Suffice it to say, it was the scariest drive home I've ever taken and I spent half of it looking over my shoulder into the back seat of my car. I give this book a solid 5 starz. what could Stephen King do there. It was a great book and a terrific scare.

. I figured what harm could there be. What harm in that, eh. Who was I kidding. I don't drive late at night anymore and I haven't been to that friend's house at night since I read Lt's Theory of Pets. ya just gotta love Stephen King. JMHO //(*_*)\\

This is a live reading by Stephen King in front of an audience in Great Britain (performed at about the time the author's novel "Bag of Bones" was published), and hearing it is an enjoyable experience. There's also an effective, bittersweet quality to the story when the marriage in question goes bad, and- I'm sure this won't surprise you- some unsettling horrific material that creeps its way into the story's closing minutes. All in all, this is a good little story with the added value of a "you are there" feel of attending a live event. Though I wouldn't want Mr. King to perform audiobooks of any length (he's no Frank Muller or George Guidall when it comes to vocal characterizations), he capably and engagingly does well for the hour or so he's in front of the Brits, who are friendly and supportive. The story being read aloud is most successful when it humorously talks about the little things one does and doesn't do in a marriage to assure daily peace, and how, if a couple has housepets, how those little critters can figure into the marriage mix. The whole thing is only about an hour, however, so you might want to pick this up somewhere at a discount, perhaps through Amazon's network of used book stores. Or, if you just want the story and not necessarily the live performance, I'm sure "LT's Theory of Pets" has since been included in one of Stephen King's frequently-published collections of short stories.
